Sheffield Wednesday boss Xisco Munoz says his side are looking at free agents to sign now, and also at potential additions for January.

Sheffield Wednesday brought in 12 new players over the summer, but only one striker in Ashley Fletcher.

The man on loan from Watford has received mixed reviews about his performances so far, leading many to think that Wednesday need to scour the free agent market for a new attacking addition.

Andre Gray is a name being mentioned on social media. But the Owls are yet to bring in a free agent following the September 1st transfer deadline.

Munoz though says that the club are working on transfers for both now and the January window.

He told The Star ahead of this weekend’s Championship clash v Ipswich Town:

“We’re working and not stopping. For example, right now we’re looking at both free agents and the next market (January). It’s important you always try to find better solutions for your club.”

Munoz then suggested that bringing in a new striker is the key aim for him right now, adding:

“We need a certain style of striker. We need to try to find a striker who goes more to the space and with more speed about this situation. We try to find this but believe me, [it’s not easy].”

Not easy on the free agent market…

There’s very few options on the free agent market who could come in and do a job for Wednesday right now.

And those that are potential options may need quite a bit of time to get up to match speed, so it’s certainly a tricky task that Wednesday have left themsleves with.

Another striker signing in the summer would’ve been ideal for Munoz. And like he points out, Wednesday don’t really have a striker who can work the space in behind the defence right now.

The Spaniard could yet be forced to deploy one of Anthony Musaba or Djeidi Gassama up top in a bid to work opposition defences a bit more, but expect the club to be working hard on potential free agent signings nonetheless.

Tomorrow’s game v Ipswich kicks off at 3pm.
