Sheffield Wednesday are in the race to sign FC Basel and Canada winger Liam Millar, claims Football Insider.

Millar, 23, spent time with both Fulham and Liverpool as a youth player in England, having had loan spells with the likes of Kilmarnock and Charlton Athletic too.

But he left Liverpool to pursue opportunities overseas in 2021; he signed for Swiss top flight side FC Basel and he’s since made 98 total appearances for the club, featuring in European competitions too.

Now though, Football Insider are claiming that a number of Championship clubs are keen on Millar and that they’ve made enquiries about his availability ahead of Friday’s 11pm transfer deadline.

Their report says that Sheffield Wednesday are rivalling the likes of Blackburn Rovers, Cardiff City, Preston North End, and South Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United for the potential signing.

Millar has scored 13 and assisted 10 for Basel since joining, with 21 cps to his name for Canada as well.

Millar was a bright spark for the Liverpool youth academy, once being hailed by then U18s boss and Reds legend Steven Gerrard after netting a hat-trick in a 4-3 win over Middlesbrough.

Wednesday moving for Millar

Wednesday have already signed some potentially exciting wide players in Anthony Musaba and Djeidi Gassama this summer, but Millar looks like someone who could really hit the ground running.

It seems like a very ambitious pursuit for Wednesday and for Rotherham United too, though some of the more top-end Championship clubs may have a better chance of landing the Canadian left winger.

For the Owls, this one looks like a bit of a far-fetched deal with Basel bound to command a decent transfer fee for a player who’s been a very good one for them since arriving two years ago.
