Sheffield Wednesday are interested in Newcastle United’s Jeff Hendrick, as per Football Insider, and the Owls are lining up a bid ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline.
The summer transfer window shuts at 11pm on Friday. It’ll mark the end of another busy, albeit turbulent summer for the Owls, who’ve started the 2023/24 Championship season in a poor vein of form.
Xisco Munoz’s side are the only team in the league without a point on the board after the opening four games, with Sheffield Wednesday also out of the Carabao Cup after defeat v Mansfield Town last night.
And with times looking tough, the Owls could make a final go of it in the transfer market, with Newcastle United and Republic of Ireland midfielder Hendrick the latest name to be linked.
Football Insider say that Championship trio Leeds United, Wednesday, and West Brom are all keen, along with Aberdeen, with the three Championship clubs lining up bids ahead of the transfer deadline.
Hendrick spent last season on loan with Reading where he played in 45 of their 46 Championship outings, scoring four and earning high praise from boss Paul Ince, who labelled him as ‘outstanding’.

Quality needed in the final 48 hours…
Sheffield Wednesday are really lacking right now, and in the final 48 hours of the transfer window, they need to add some quality.
And Hendrick would bring a huge degree of experience and Premier League pedigree to the club.
He’s had his day in the Premier League and it looks like he’s a Championship player now; and a good one at that, performing consistently well in a struggling Reading side last season.
He’d bring a great amount of creativity and experience to the Wednesday midfield which would be vital in what looks set to be a relegation battle this season, but with other teams interested, it won’t be an easy pursuit.
