Sheffield Wednesday are interested in a potential loan deal for Newcastle United outcast Isaac Hayden, reports The Star.

Hayden, 28, has been with Newcastle United since 2016, having racked up an impressive 177 total appearances for the Magpies.

But the central midfielder has steadily fallen down the pecking order at St James’ Park and now it looks like he’ll be on the move before tomorrow’s 11pm transfer deadline.

Hayden looked set to join Luton Town on loan but that move has since collapsed, with reports last week linking Championship quartet Middlesbrough, Millwall, QPR, and West Brom.

Now though, The Star are saying that Sheffield Wednesdya are also interested in a potential loan deal for Hayden, after the Owls were linked with his Newcastle teammate Jeff Hendrick yesterday.

Hayden was a regular during Steve Bruce’s time at Newcastle United, with the former Owls boss labelling the Englishman as ‘valuable’, and also hailing his versatility.

Solidity and versatility needed

Wednesday need a lot of things in the final 48 hours of the summer transfer window, but someone with Hayden’s experience, versatility, and overall steel in the middle of the part would be a huge plus.

Wednesday are struggling to keep clean sheets among other things, but Hayden would surely go towards helping to stop the rot.

With other teams interested, it would be a difficult pursuit for the Owls, who look like they could make one or two late moves in the summer transfer window.

Wednesday face Leeds United in the Championship this weekend.
