Sheffield Wednesday have been linked with a move for Celta Vigo midfielder Miguel Baeza, but Championship rivals Swansea City could yet poach the former Real Madrid man.

Baeza, 23, is currently down in the pecking order at Spanish side Celta Vigo, managed by former Liverpool, Everton, and Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez.

He spent last season on loan with Portuguese outfit Rio Ave and a return is said to have been likely, but for Rio Ave being unable to register new players until January next year.

So Baeza is looking for a new club and The Star relayed reports from Spain yesterday that Sheffield Wednesday were one of two clubs looking to sign Baeza.

And now, it appears that that second club is Wednesday’s Championship rivals Swansea City.

Swansea City website Planet Swans have also found reports in Spain which say that Swansea City are looking into a season-long loan for Baeza; which also sugegsts that Wednesday are looking at a loan deal, and not a permanent one.

Another one bites the dust?

Sheffield Wednesday aren’t out of this transfer chase yet, but it’s difficult to see them beating the likes of Swansea City in any transfer chase.

Baeza is an attacking midfielder who can also play on the left wing, so he’d for sure be an exciting and very useful addition to Xisco Munoz’s side.

Munoz’s Spanish connection could yet be an advantage in bringing Baeza to Hillsborough, with a loan move looking the more likely option than a permanent one.

But as per Planet Swans and those reports in Spain, it looks like Swansea City have a keen interest in Baeza and the club might yet have the resources and pulling power to beat Sheffield Wednesday to Baeza’s signature.

Sheffield Wednesday return to action v Cardiff City this weekend.
