According to Yorkshire Live, Sheffield Wednesday have given up the chase to sign Cardiff City’s Josh Murphy while Jordan Rhodes appears set to stay at Hillsborough.
The Owls and Cardiff were in talks over a deal for Rhodes.
New Cardiff manager Mick McCarthy is seemingly a big fan of the player, while the striker’s contract at Hillsborough expires in the summer with the Owls open to an early exit.
But Wales Online claim Cardiff couldn’t agree a deal for Rhodes. After exploring several options to get a deal over the line, none were deemed feasible by either party.
It leaves Rhodes’ future up in the air as he struggles for game-time at Wednesday.

The Yorkshire Live, meanwhile, claim Wednesday’s bid to sign Murphy has taken a similar path with the Owls seeking to take him on loan for the next six months.
Murphy, whose brother Jacob Murphy spent the 2019/20 campaign on loan at Wednesday, has fallen out of favour at Cardiff following Neil Warnock’s exit last season.
Wednesday were hoping to bring him in to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the transfer deadline, but now they will have to quickly move on to other targets.
The Owls must look at adding a natural left-back and another attacker before the 11pm deadline. Doing so without a permanent manager in charge, however, will be a challenge.
