A number of Championship clubs are looking at a potential deadline day deal for Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Will Vaulks, reports Yorkshire Live.

Vaulks, 29, could be set to leave Sheffield Wednesday in the final hours of this summer’s transfer window, with League One side Derby County having been linked with the midfielder yesterday.

But Yorkshire Live are now saying that Vaulks has a number of Championship suitors looking at making a last minute move, though no specific clubs are named.

The former Rotherham United and Cardiff City man joined Wednesday on a free transfer last summer, going on to make 46 League One appearances as the Owls earned promotion via the play-offs; Vaulks scored two and assisted two more.

Vaulks was a regular under Darren Moore last season, but Xisco Munoz doesn’t seem to favour the Welsh international, having handed Vaulks just two starts in all competitions this season.

Wednesday foolish to let Vaulks go?

Vaulks was a key player for Wednesday last season. He kept things ticking over and eventually proved to be a key player, but like some others who performed well last season, he doesn’t seem to be favoured by Munoz.

Vaulks has had a tricky start to the season and whilst he can make the odd mistake, on the whole, he’s a very useful player to have around in the Championship and it’s no surprise to see this amount of Championship interest in him.

Whether or not he leaves remains to be seen, but with Wednesday seemingly chasing a couple of central midfielders in Jeff Hendrick and Isaac Hayden, Vaulks could be one that the club lets go today.
