Sheffield Wednesday midfielder George Byers has emerged as a transfer target for League One promotion hopefuls, Barnsley.
This news comes from Darren Witcoop.
So, what has been said about Byers and will he leave Wednesday before the transfer deadline on Thursday? Let’s take a closer look…
Barnsley want Sheffield Wednesday midfielder George Byers
Well, it would appear as though the Owls might be open to letting Byers leave Hillsborough before the transfer window closes.
The 27-year-old has made 22 appearances during 2023/24 but hasn’t featured in the last three Championship games.
Now, Darren Witcoop believes Wednesday could look to move the player on, with the club looking to bolster their midfield ranks.
It’s claimed that Blackpool and Barnsley are now interested in the player ahead of the deadline.

Byers signed for Wednesday in 2021 from Swansea and he helped the club win promotion back to the Championship.
The talented midfielder endured a nightmare end to last season, with injury robbing him of a chance to play in the remarkable play-off games.
Byers has played for the Owls 78 times, scoring 14 goals and registering six assists.
When the midfielder was at Swansea, his manager Steve Cooper called him ‘quality’ following a string of fine performances.
Letting Byers go would be risky business
If the club are going to let Byers move on this month, a replacement must be sought first.
Byers has been a dependable performer since signing for the club, although some injury problems have hampered his chances of regular game time.
The chance to play regular football at Blackpool or Barnsley would likely be something that the player himself would consider.
Byers is out of contract in the summer so if Wednesday can get a small fee this month, it would make decent business sense.
However, with the club still battling against relegation, it’s vital that the squad isn’t left with gaps in it.
Byers heading to the exit would leave Wednesday in need of reinforcements and hopefully, the club can get that sorted first.
It would be quite interesting should the player sign for Barnsley this month.
Wednesday defeated the Tykes in last summer’s League One Play-Off Final and Byers would hope for another celebration in May if he heads there.
