Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has told the BBC that reported Sheffield Wednesday target Sam Cosgrove could be set for a move to Birmingham City following an offer.
The former Carlisle United striker has been heavily linked with a return south of the border.
According to the Evening Express this week, Sheffield Wednesday registered an interest in the striker but were put off by Aberdeen’s asking price with Newcastle United also monitoring his situation.

But it’s Birmingham City who have made the biggest push for his signature. Sky Sports say a £2 million bid has been tabled as the two clubs enter discussions.
Speaking to the BBC, McInnes admits the deal is too good to turn down.

“We know how key a player he is both for us and the country and we have had to deal with that situation, but it was good money and we felt it was the right thing to do. It is a constant challenge having to replace good players, but it is a challenge nonetheless and part of the process here to develop players and, if Sam was to go, for us to pay £30,000 to Carlisle for him and, if there is a potential to bring in millions of pounds for him, that has got to be seen as a good deal,” the Aberdeen boss explained.
Wednesday have been struggling in the Championship as they sit second from bottom.
Even without a six-point deduction, the Owls would still be in relegation trouble with the squad paper thin, lacking striker options and importantly creativity in wide areas.
The Owls are the joint-lowest scorers in the league with 15 goals in 24 games.

Moreover, the club are still manager-less after sacking Tony Pulis. With just two days left in the transfer window, getting the right players in now could be difficult.
Birmingham, meanwhile, are also struggling just above the bottom three. The Blues are on a run of six defeats in their last eight games, scoring just twice in their last six matches.
Aitor Karanka will be hopeful Cosgrove can repeat his goal scoring antics at Aberdeen (47 strikes in 102 games) and fire them to safety this season.
