One Sheffield Wednesday star has been tipped to leave the club for League One this summer.
Sheffield Wednesday offered seven players new contracts last month, with Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer being the only two so far to put pen to paper.
Josh Windass had already admitted that Danny Rohl’s extension could be key to him staying with the club, and it seems likely that that would have been the case for most of the out-of-contract players.
One player whose contract offer came as a surprise to many is Cameron Dawson, who only managed 18 appearances in the Championship last term.
Dawson made his senior debut for the Owls back in 2013, but has failed to establish himself as a regular, with his most appearances in one league campaign coming in 2018-19, when he made 26 starts.
The 28-year-old lost his place when James Beadle arrived on loan in January, and it was expected that he would leave Hillsborough as a free agent this summer.
However, he has been offered fresh terms and it remains to be seen whether he will commit to them.
Despite Wednesday being Dawson’s boyhood club, journalist Rob Staton believes the goalkeeper could leave in search of regular first team football.

Speaking on Football Heaven podcast, Staton said: “Presumably we’ll try and get James Beadle back and that’s more likely now that they’ve stayed up, I would guess. No reason to think why that couldn’t happen. Unless someone is going to offer him a tremendous loan fee, so you would think he would come back.
“So what does Cam Dawson do? Does he want to go somewhere else and start or be an understudy again? It’s difficult when you’ve grown up playing for a club, but I would have thought in his mind, a clean break is best.
“He could go to League One clubs and be a real asset. I mean, why not? Barnsley could be a good shout. Rotherham would be another one. He’s a really good goalkeeper.”
Cameron Dawson’s exit would benefit both parties
Cameron Dawson is set to turn 29 years old next month, and while goalkeepers can play till much older, he isn’t going to improve anymore.
The shot-stopper has been a solid back-up, but there is surely no chance of him forcing himself into the starting line-up again, and surely he would much prefer to be playing regular football.
Dawson is thought to be raking in over £8,000-per-week, and offloading him could be a real boost ahead of the transfer window.
The 28-year-old should opt for a move to League One and become a really important player to a club pushing for promotion.
