Sheffield Wednesday will sanction the departure of Lee Gregory during the January transfer window. It’s now emerged that several League One clubs are keen to take the striker on loan.

Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has banished Gregory from his plans in recent weeks. He recently fetched up a milestone appearance against Plymouth but it seems that his performance in that game was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Gregory has been a loyal servant to the Owls during his time at the club. He’s scored some huge goals at Wednesday and it’s a shame that things have come to this.

Wednesday star Gregory fancied by League One clubs ahead of January

It’s a shame that it’s come to this but Gregory looks like his hand is being forced here. At 35-years-old, the player will merely want to play football and it’s hard to knock him for that.

The news of his pending departure comes from journalist Darren Witcoop. He posted on X this morning that League One clubs are now keen on signing the player next month.

Gregory has been brilliant for Wednesday during his time at the club. The Owls striker has always worked himself into the ground for Wednesday and he will go with best wishes.

Ultimately, Rohl just hasn’t fancied Gregory since he came to Wednesday earlier this season. He’s placed his trust in Bailey Cadamarteri instead, with the 18-year-old scoring again yesterday.

Wednesday striker will be a steal for League One clubs

Gregory would leave the Owls with the utmost respect of the fan base. He scored in the memorable victory over Peterborough in the play-off semi-final last season and also played in the final.

Although the player is 35 now, he’s still capable of producing the goods at League One level. In 152 games in the third tier, he’s scored 61 goals and that record is pretty impressive.

Rohl will want to add his own players to the ranks in January. However, in order to do that he will need to streamline the squad and that could see Gregory binned by Wednesday next month.
