According to the Athletic, Paul Cook is in line to replace Paul Lambert at Ipswich Town just six weeks after saying he wanted to manage Sheffield Wednesday.
Cook is currently without a job after leaving Wigan Athletic last summer.
The 53-year-old did an excellent job at the Latics, first gaining promotion before being on course for a midtable finish last term before a 12-point deduction prompted in relegation.
Cook later told Talksport’s EFL show how he first applied to become the manager of Sheffield Wednesday in October. However, on that occasion Tony Pulis was chosen.
Cook later said he held talks with the Owls again in January, but owner Dejphon Chansiri was unmoved and criticised the former Wigan manager for claims he was offered the job.
The Owls have since stuck with interim manager Neil Thompson temporarily.
Cook, meanwhile, could find himself back in work with League One side Ipswich Town.
The Athletic say the Tractor Boys are on the verge of a US takeover for a £17.5million fee, and Cook has been lined up to replace under-fire manager Paul Lambert.
Lambert has struggled to replicate his previous Norwich City success at Ipswich.
Ipswich were already heading for League One when Lambert took over, yet the former Dortmund midfielder failed to guide the Suffolk club back to the Championship last season.
After missing out on the League One playoffs in the disrupted 2019/20 campaign, Ipswich are in danger again of falling short of the top six as they sit tenth in the table.
Cook would be quite a coup for Ipswich considering his success at Wigan.
Wednesday, meanwhile, are in danger of relegation as they sit 23rd in the Championship table and some supporters may feel they will regret not hiring Cook when they had the chance.
