Sheffield Wednesday head coach Danny Rohl has been handed a transfer boost over Newcastle midfielder Isaac Hayden.

An update has emerged courtesy of transfer journalist Pete O’Rourke.

So, what is the latest on Wednesday and their pursuit of Newcastle maestro Hayden? Let’s take a closer look…

Wednesday now handed boost over Isaac Hayden

Well, it would appear as though Wednesday have some positive news in their quest to bring Hayden to Hillsborough.

Pete O’Rourke has reported today that Hayden has been recalled from his loan at Standard Liege by Newcastle.

Furthermore, O’Rourke has namechecked Newcastle among the potential interested parties for his signature.

Wednesday will face competition from Birmingham, Plymouth and Blackburn for his signature before the end of January.

Hayden spent the first half of the campaign in Belgium but struggled, making just 11 appearances for Liege.

Who is Isaac Hayden?

The midfielder began his career with Arsenal and was a product of their respected academy.

He went on to make two appearances for the first team but spent time on loan with Hull.

Hayden left Arsenal permanently in 2016 to sign for Newcastle and there he helped them return to the Premier League.

Hayden has made 171 appearances for the Magpies and now he looks set to head out on loan again.

The player was praised by Alan Shearer back in 2021 with the Newcastle legend calling him ‘superb’.

Hayden knows the Championship inside and out and that alone could make him a very useful signing for Wednesday.

Danny Rohl has been a busy man this January.

He’s already completed the signing of James Beadle to compete in goal and earlier today Ike Ugbo checked in on loan from Troyes.

There will be more to come from Rohl during this transfer window and Hayden to Wednesday is one to keep an eye on.
