Sheffield Wednesday have signed Gui Siqueira on a permanent deal.
Siqueira, 18, signed his first professional deal with Sheffield Wednesday after leaving QPR last season.
The Brazilian-born full-back was with Brentford as a youngster but eventually joined QPR where he saw through a two-year scholarship.
He spent time on trial with Sheffield Wednesday last season though, eventually leaving the Owls’ new Championship rivals before signing with Wednesday.
The Owls announced the news this moning, with academy boss Steve Haslam saying:
“We’re really pleased to bring Gui on board. He impressed during his trial period last season and now joins us on a permanent basis.
“He will join the group ahead of the new season and this is a great opportunity for Gui to move his career to the next level.”
It looks likely that Siqueira will link up with the club’s U18s side at first, but with the first-team looking depleted ahead of the new season, Siqueira could yet find himself fast-tracked into Xisco Munoz’s plans.
The season ahead for Sheffield Wednesday
Siqueira’s signing could be indicative of what the summer ahead might hold for Sheffield Wednesday.
The club are being linked with players who would come straight into the first-team, but they’re so far struggling to get in their transfer targets.
Youngsters might be brought in and they could yet be given a chance in the Championship next season, especially if injuries begin to take over and Munoz runs out of options in the side.
Siqueira certainly looks like a talent and he could yet go on to have an impressive career with the Owls.
Sheffield Wednesday are next in action against Eldense on Friday, before returning to the UK where they take on Doncaster Rovers next Tuesday.
