With Sheffield Wednesday’s embargo being lifted last week, Danny Rohl can now look ahead to the January transfer window.
Despite winning promotion to the Championship earlier this year, the Owls only spent around £1 million on two players, with a further ten stars arriving on loans and free transfers.
While Dejphon Chansiri still appears to have plenty of financial problems and it is unclear whether he will be able to commit much money to the team, there is no doubt that Rohl will still look to completely transform the Owls’ fortunes this season.
The German will be desperate to bring in some of his new signings and will, in particular, need to focus on adding some fresh faces to his attack.
Sheffield Wednesday have only netted seven goals in 15 games this season, while Michael Smith is currently their top scorer with only three goals to his name.
Here are three players who Danny Rohl could make as his first signing at Hillsborough.
Jonson Clarke-Harris
Jonson Clarke-Harris is one striker that has constantly been linked with a number of EFL clubs since he first started impressing for Bristol Rovers.
The 29-year-old joined Peterborough United in 2020 and has since bagged an impressive 80 goals in 164 appearances – including 12 as Posh were relegated from the Championship.
Clarke-Harris has been a consistent goalscorer and has shown he is capable in the Championship, while he could be available on the cheap now as he enters the final six months of his contract.
Peterborough could look to earn a fee on his exit in January rather than allow him to leave for free next summer.
While it’s unclear how much he would cost, the forward could add some goals to Sheffield Wednesday’s lacklustre attack.
Alex Pritchard
Alex Pritchard looked set to leave Sunderland in the summer, but ended up remaining on Wearside and enjoying a positive start to the campaign.
Sunderland fans were very frustrated when the club were looking to move the midfielder on, but he was handed another chance in the team.
With Jobe Bellingham and Bradley Dack also competing for a spot in the midfield, the Black Cats could be willing to part ways with Pritchard in January.
Despite his contract not ending until next summer, it was thought that Sunderland were previously prepared to lose him for free. It could be a very good deal for the Owls if they can snap him up for nothing.
Shola Shoretire
Shola Shoretire struggled to impress during his loan spell with Bolton Wanderers, however he is very highly regarded at Old Trafford.
The 19-year-old has claimed six goals and three assists for Manchester United U21s this season and could be prepared to have another crack at senior football in the Championship.
If Danny Rohl can get the best out of the youngster then he could be a very positive loan signing for the Owls.
