3 free agent right-backs Sheffield Wednesday should consider after Regan Poole blow

Sheffield Wednesday-linked man Regan Poole recently signed for League One hopefuls Portsmouth.

Poole to Sheffield Wednesday looked like a very possible transfer earlier in the summer. But Darren Moore’s sudden exit and the chaos that followed put Wednesday’s transfer business on hold, and Poole secured a move to Fratton Park.

Liam Palmer is the club’s only natural right-back as things stand and he’s currently injured, recovering from surgery on a persistent injury.

So expect new boss Xisco Munoz to target at least one right-back this summer – here’s three free agents that the Spaniard should consider…

Maxime Colin

The Frenchman left Birmingham City at the end of last season following a six-year spell at St Andrew’s.

The 31-year-old barely missed a game for Blues in that time. He racked up 253 total appearances during his time at the club and he leaves as a bit of a cult hero, having arguably been the club’s most consistent player during some tough years.

And Blues boss John Eustace was sad to see him go, labelling the ex-Brentford man as a ‘magnificent player’ – he’d be a huge coup for Wednesday.

The 23-year-old has just been released by Fulham. As a younger player, he promised so much, but injuries has hampered his development so far.

Last season though, Sessegnon put in a decent shift on loan at Charlton Athletic in League One, featuring 38 times in all competitions and proving to be a very useful player.

On a free transfer, the Englishman wouod be a very shrewd option for a lot of teams in the Football League.

Ryan Nyambe

Former Blackburn Rovers man Nyambe is a free agent after spending one season at Wigan Athletic.

Upon his release from Blackburn, Nyambe was an in demand name, but he chose to stay in the north-west with Wigan where he managed to put in some combative performances despite the club’s relegation.

With Rovers, the right-back racked up 201 total apearances with the bulk of those coming in the Championship – there’s few available players with as much experience as him.
