According to Footnews.be, Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County are interested in signing Standard Liege attacker Aleksandar Boljevic this month.
The 21-cap Montenegro international joined Standard in 2019.
But with just six first-team appearances in the Belgian top-flight this season, the 25-year-old could be on his way in January with the Owls and Derby keen.
Footnews.be claims Boljevic is available for transfer. While Brexit makes signing foreign players difficult, the Standard man is likely eligible due to his international role.
Boljevic featured eight times for Montenegro during 2020 and played the full 90 minutes against England in the 5-1 defeat in the European qualifiers back in 2019.
Wednesday and Derby are both struggling in the Championship this term.
The Owls climbed above the Rams after their 1-0 victory over Wayne Rooney’s side at Hillsborough on New Year’s Day, their second successive win after sacking Tony Pulis.
Derby remain in the bottom three. While Rooney’s side have played well of late, the Rams still lack creativity and goals and are the lowest scorers in the Championship.
Wednesday, meanwhile, must address their options in the final third this month.
The Owls have looked steady at the back in recent games but going forward they are devoid of any real quality while they also lack options out wide.
A new striker and quick wide player will surely top their wish-list in January. Boljevic is predominantly a right winger but can also operate centrally behind the striker.
With finances tight at Hillsborough and Pride Park, the former PSV Eindhoven player may be exactly the sort of cheap signing both clubs will aim for this month.
