Report: Owls loanee Izzy Brown could leave this month as Chelsea consider options

According to Yorkshire Live, on loan Sheffield Wednesday attacker Izzy Brown could return to Chelsea this month with fellow Championship clubs also keen.

Brown joined the Owls on a season-long loan deal in the summer.

Having previously helped Huddersfield Town to promotion, it felt like an excellent move from Wednesday as former boss Garry Monk looked to add more attacking quality.

Upon signing, Monk spoke highly of Brown, adding: “I think it is an important season for Izzy. He has got fantastic ability and we all know that. He adds competition and quality.”

But so far this season, Brown has made little impact at Hillsborough, registering just one assist from 14 Championship appearances with only three of those starts.

Now, Yorkshire Live claim he could depart with Chelsea having the option of a recall.

The Blues will have monitored the 24-year-old’s lack of progress so far. Moreover, with Blackburn and Reading keen, the playoff challengers may represent a better option.

Brown’s playing time at Wednesday may be limited further following the arrival of Andre Green. He has signed on a free transfer following a summer exit from Aston Villa.

Green can operate out wide or through the middle in an attacking role.

Brown’s contract at Chelsea, meanwhile, expires in the summer of 2021 though there is the option of a one-year extension which is likely to be triggered.
