According to the Stoke Sentinel, Sheffield Wednesday are lining up a move for Buxton youngster Kyle Campbell following a successful trial at the club.
The 18-year-old is the bother of highly-rated Stoke prospect Tyrese Campbell.
Capable of playing as a wide forward or operating through the middle, the younger Kyle Campbell is currently plying his trade in non-league with Buxton.
But the Stoke Sentinel claim he is on Wednesday’s watch list following a successful trial, while having previously spent time at Darren Moore’s former club Doncaster Rovers.
SAKA, ANTONY AND 10 PREMIER LEAGUE STARS HEADING TO THEIR FIRST WORLD CUP
Wednesday have a big summer ahead of them with several players out of contract.
The likes of Adam Reach and Kadeem Harris could be set for free transfer moves, while a drop down to League One would surely prompt a shake-up in the squad.
The Owls are edging closer to relegation, losing their last Championship seven games in succession and falling seven points behind Birmingham City who occupy 21st spot.
Wednesday have been on the decline for some time, and regardless of what happens this season, their struggles should provide a wake-up call to owner Dejphon Chansiri and the club’s recruitment.
Bringing in young talent such as Campbell would be a step in the right direction.
Several players such as Chris Smalling, Michail Antonio, Jarrod Bowen, Ollie Watkins and of course Jamie Vardy all played non-league football before gracing the Premier League.
There certainly is talent that far down the pyramid and the Owls must consider fresh options.
