Lucas Joao is set to submit a transfer request at Sheffield Wednesday, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims Wednesday have turned down offers for Joao from two unnamed Championship rivals, after failing to meet the Owls’ £8 million asking price.

And the Portuguese striker is said to be disappointed by the club’s stance, believing he is being overvalued, and is ready to take action in search of a new challenge.

Joao signed a new three-year contract at Sheffield Wednesday, for whom he has scored 28 goals from 66 starts, less than 12 months ago, and was recently linked with Huddersfield Town, again by the Sun.

Wednesday, who are also dealing with the expected loss of their manager Steve Bruce, have an abundance of strikers on their books.

But Joao is unlikely to feature at the top end of the Owls’ list of players to offload.

The 25-year-old’s positional rivals currently comprise Steven Fletcher, Fernando Forestieri, Sam Winnall, Atdhe Nuhiu and Jordan Rhodes.

What would be a fair price for Joao?
