Sheffield Wednesday summer target Bailey Peacock-Farrell is now being linked with Championship rivals Hull City and Swansea City.
Last month, Sheffield Wednesday were creditted with an interest in Burnley and Northern Ireland goalkeeper Peacock-Farrell.
The 26-year-old, 39-cap Northern Ireland international spent time on loan at Hillsborough during the 2021/22 season where he racked up 43 league appearances as the Owls claimed a top six finish.
He played a back up role at Burnley last season, featuring just eight times in the league under Vincent Kompany who appears to be a big fan of the shot-stopper.
Kompany was quoted by Belfast Telegraph as saying on Peacock-Farrell in February this year:
“Bailey has been top — his performances have been good. They’ve been there for everyone to see and that’s why we’ve given him every opportunity to be our keeper.”
But a Hillsborough return for Peacock-Farrell is starting to look very unlikely. Not only are Sheffield Wednesday without a manager and without a Head of Recruitment, there’s now emerging transfer interest in the Burnley man from Wednesday’s Championship rivals Hull City and Swansea City.
A sign of things to come?
A Hillsborough return for Peacock-Farrell looked quite likely at the start of the summer. It was a move that made sense given Burnley’s and Wednesday’s promotion, and the fact that Peacock-Farrell shone for Wednesday during his previous loan spell.
But Nixon’s revelation that Hull and Swansea are now keen can only be bad news for the Owls. Not only are they falling behind in their summer preparations due to all the unrest at the club, but it now looks like other teams are ready to step in for their summer transfer targets.
And that could certainly be a common theme for the club this month. Without a manager in place, the club’s summer transfer plans can’t truly get underway, so expect to see the Owls miss out on a few more players this summer.
