Sheffield Wednesday have a new fan favourite in Bailey Cadamarteri.
The 18-year-old’s recent breakthrough has given everyone a lift.
He shone in the draw vs Leicester City, his first league start for the Owls, and opened the scoring in the following win over Blackburn Rovers.
The Sheffield Wednesday academy graduate now looks like he could play a key role for Danny Rohl‘s side this season, with the Owls certainly in need of a hero or two.
Bailey Cadamarteri’s Sheffield Wednesday breakthrough
Fans have been calling for Cadamarteri‘s promotion to the first-team for a while.
He was training with the senior squad under Xisco Munoz but it’s Rohl who’s given him his breakthrough, and he’s thoroughly impressed.
He’s added some much-needed energy and vibrance to a front-line that was struggling before, but Cadamarteri’s breakthrough may not be good news for everyone.
The likes of Lee Gregory, Mallik Wilks, and Ashley Fletcher look set to fall further down the pecking order and the trio may well be fearing for their futures at the club ahead of next month’s transfer window.
What it could mean for Gregory, Wilks, and Fletcher
The three have failed to impress this season.
And between them they’ve had just three starts so far under Rohl, and with January just around the corner and Sheffield Wednesday looking set to see some movement, the trio could be some of the first names on the chopping block.
Gregory especially has been exiled by Rohl having not been involved in any of the last four matchday squads now.
Watford loanee Fletcher continues to play a back-up role with a handful of substitute appearances to his name, whilst Wilks has now been left out of the last two matchday squads.
Nothing looks set to displace Cadamarteri in the attacking department now; he’s shown enough in the last two games to suggest that he’s perhaps Rohl’s best no.9 now, and with a striker signing looking highly likely in January, it’ll further push the likes of Gregory, Fletcher, and Wilks down the pecking order.
Fletcher though seems the most likely to stay given the fact that he’s the most involved of the three and that it could potentially cost the Owls to terminate his loan.
Gregory though certainly seems like someone who could be moved on, and Wilks too, with the 24-year-old having failed to kick on after an injury-laden spell at Hillsborough.
And it’s a huge a compliment to Cadamarteri that he’s keeping three experienced strikers at bay right now; he definitely looks like a star in the making and in Rohl, he has a great, young coach to help guide him through his early breakthrough.
