Sheffield Wednesday host Leicester City on Wednesday night, in what will surely be Danny Rohl’s toughest assignment yet.
So far under Rohl, Sheffield Wednesday have played six games and won just one, losing the other five.
They remain rooted to the foot of the Championship table and now 10 points from safety, with relegation already looking like a certainty this season.
And up next for the Owls is a visit from league leaders Leicester City.
The Foxes have a three-point lead over Ipswich Town at the top of the Championship pile after a routine 2-0 win over Watford on Saturday.
Changes looming for Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday?
Sheffield Wednesday put in a good performance at Birmingham City on Saturday.
The win flattered Wayne Rooney’s side and many think the Owls should have taken all three points, let alone one point.
Wednesday pressed well, even Rooney said so, but for Anthony Musaba, it was a tough afternoon.
The summer signing quickly became a favourite among fans with his pace and forward-thinking giving Wednesday an edge.
But his performance on Saturday was arguably his worst since joining and it’s given Rohl a decision to make ahead of tomorrow night’s game at Hillsborough.
As per Salary Sport, Musaba is currently earning £8.5k-a-week at Sheffield Wednesday.
Musaba can make an impact off the bench
Rohl is an admirer of Musaba. The German previously said of him:
“I think he is very fast and is good one against one. We spoke about creating self-confidence. We’ve shown him lots of videos and spoken and for us he is a (dangerous) weapon, with his pace. He can attack the gaps and this is what we need from our players in the future. This is what we need. On the front foot and then we can create chances.”
And the 22-year-old is certainly an important player and one of the club’s better summer signings, but given his rawness, he might be better suited to making an impact off the bench right now.
He’s often brought off in second halves, and on Saturday he was replaced by Djeidi Gassama who is a similar player, but who’s had less exposure under Rohl so far.
The former PSG made an impact when he came on against Birmingham City and starting him over Musaba might be an easy decision for Rohl to make ahead of tomorrow; Gassama has only started twice under Rohl but on both occasions he was hooked at half-time.
It might be time to give Gassama an hour or so and then bring on Musaba, to see if the Dutchman can have more of an impact coming off the bench and using his pace to get at opposition defences.
And against a Leicester side who’ll try and play out from the back, that kind of pressing will be vital for the Owls if they’re to give Enzo Maresca’s side a tough evening.
