Sheffield Wednesday host Cardiff City in the FA Cup tomorrow, with many changes to the XI expected.
Sheffield Wednesday are back in action at Hillsborough tomorrow where they welcome Championship rivals Cardiff City.
The Bluebirds were in South Yorkshire just a few weeks ago where they came from behind to claim an unexpected 2-1 win over the Owls.
But tomorrow’s game is expected to be markedly different with Danny Rohl looking set to make several changes to his XI.
Sheffield Wednesday youngsters expected to feature
Rohl has quickly taken a liking to some of Sheffield Wednesday’s younger players, with Bailey Cadamarteri obviously the standout.
Though it seems like he’ll be rested after a string of starts for the Owls, with fellow teens Joey Phuthi and perhaps Gui Siqueira in line to make their full debuts against Cardiff, who may also field some youngsters tomorrow.
It’ll certainly be exciting to see who features tomorrow, and we could also see some first-team players making rare starts under Rohl, with one potentially in line for a start being Ashley Fletcher.
Ashley Fletcher could tear it up against Cardiff City
The 28-year-old has been very hit and miss among the Sheffield Wednesday fans so far, having failed to score in 20 Championship outings for the Owls.
But he did come off the bench against Hull City last time out, going on to claim the assist for Marvin Johnson’s opener in what was one of his better performances for the club.
Xisco Munoz brought Fletcher to Wednesday in the summer. He’d worked with the striker at Watford before but was critical of Fletcher earlier in the season, saying that he needed more from the target man.
Fletcher has now featured 10 times under Rohl but has only made the one start under his watch. Rohl clearly sees something in him and with strikers low on the ground, Fletcher could be tasked with leading the line against Cardiff tomorrow.
It’d be a rare chance for the Englishman but after his decent outing against Hull last time out, and with Cadamarteri no doubt in need of a break, it could be the perfect time to unleash Fletcher against what’ll likely be a weakened Cardiff City side.
And if he can manage to impress then he’ll keep himself in Rohl’s thinking for the next few games and for beyond this month’s transfer window maybe, with Fletcher’s future uncertain given the recent return of John Buckley to Blackburn Rovers and the uncertainty surrounding another loan man in Jeff Hendrick.
