Sheffield Wednesday should look to re-sign striker Jordan Rhodes in the January transfer window.
Rhodes had a spell at Wednesday that spanned over four-and-a-half years.
The Scotland international is known for being one of the most prolific goal scorers in Championship history, especially with Huddersfield Town and Blackburn Rovers.
Who is Jordan Rhodes?
He originally joined the club on a loan deal, spending the second half of the 16/17 season on loan with the Owls from Middlesbrough.
He then joined permanently that summer for £10 million, in what was a big purchase by Dejphon Chansiri.
After only scoring three goals in the 20 games Rhodes spent with the club on loan, it would not get much better.
Over the next four years (with a loan spell at Norwich City in 18/19 in between) he would go on to score just 17 goals in 92 appearances, before being released in 2021 following their relegation to League One.
He would then go on to return to Huddersfield Town, where he has been since. He scored 10 goals in 64 games in the last two seasons, but his form was not good enough for him to be part of the Terriers squad going into this campaign.
Due to that Rhodes was sent out on loan to Blackpool in League One, where he has now rediscovered his goal scoring form.
So far in the third tier he has scored ten goals in 14 games, making him the joint third top goal scorer this season.
Should Wednesday bring him back?
With Wednesday’s goal scoring problems this season, they should definitely take a look at bringing him back.
Huddersfield have a recall clause inserted in Rhodes’ contract at Blackpool, so it would make Wednesday being able to buy him a lot easier.
The drop down in level has clearly shown that Rhodes is too good for that level, with him being described as ‘terrific’ by his manager Neil Critchley. His form should hopefully translate into a Wednesday side that is lacking up front.
They have scored the least amount of goals in the Championship, only scoring seven goals so far this season.
