The Sheffield Wednesday-linked striker Connor Wickham may have moved closer to a Crystal Palace exit on Friday.
Rumours that Wickham could return to Wednesday, the club for whom appeared 17 times and scored or made 12 goals across two loan spells earlier in his career, have intensified over the past 24 hours.
And the reporter Alan Nixon has claimed the 26-year-old is now the centre-forward most likely to arrive at Hillsborough this month.
Palace have since recruited the Everton striker Cenk Tosun on a season-long loan, and that could leave Wickham as fourth in the queue, with the Turk, Jordan Ayew and Christian Benteke for company at Selhurst Park.
After an injury-hit couple of years, Wickham will be desperate to build on his fitness with regular first-team minutes between now and the end of the campaign.

But Sheffield Wednesday may not be the only ones interested in signing the £9 million Palace recruit – whose partner’s family are understood to support the Owls.
The Wednesday manager Garry Monk said on Thursday that he does not expect to add to his side before Saturday’s trip to Leeds United, although he admitted that things could change quickly.
Nevertheless, Wickham was seen training with his Crystal Palace teammates in a video sharing footage of Tosun’s first session earlier.
