Sheffield Wednesday face Brentford this week in what is likely to be a tough game for the Owls.
The Yorkshire outfit come off the back of two 1-0 losses against Stoke and Birmingham, but Neil Thompson’s side have been known to upset the odds before, famously beating Bournemouth earlier this month.
Wednesday will be keen to cause another upset here, but their task has been made that much harder by Liam Shaw’s suspension after picking up a red card on Saturday.
Shaw will miss this one, and of course, that means he needs replacing, and we may have just had a big hint about who will take his place.
Indeed, The Owls’ U23 side played on Tuesday, and there was one notable absence from the matchday squad as Izzy Brown didn’t even get a place on the bench.
Brown has been regularly playing for the U23s as of late, and he impressed last week, picking up an assist as he got another 45 minutes under his belt.
However, this week he didn’t even make the squad, and with Thompson saying he needs to get minutes to improve his sharpness, his absence wouldn’t make much sense unless he has a part to play against Brentford.
The sad reality is that the Owls don’t have much depth in the middle of the park. Joey Pelupessy, Barry Bannan and Shaun Hutchinson are all options, but beyond those three you’d have to think Brown is next in line.
The midfielder has only played once since Thompson took over from Tony Pulis, but it seems as though he may be in line to get his second appearance under Thompson against Brentford.
Whether or not he does play remains to be seen, but there are certainly signs pointing towards him being involved.
