Sheffield Wednesday sit ten points from safety at the bottom of the Championship, but they have discovered a glimmer of hope recently.
The Owls were promoted via the most exciting of miracles, with the team overturning a huge 4-0 defeat in the first leg of May’s play-offs.
Things drastically declined upon their return to the second tier though, with Darren Moore exiting the club before Xisco Munoz claiming only three points in their first eleven games.
Danny Rohl has since come in with a completely different mindset and plan, and is looking to implement a more exciting, high-pressure and high intensity style of play.
It is much rather a marathon than a sprint, but Sheffield Wednesday have certainly started to see the effects of the German’s ambitions.
The Owls were narrowly beaten by Birmingham City at the end of November, but they went onto cause one of the biggest upsets in the Championship as a 93rd minute goal from Jeff Hendrick nicked a point off Leicester City.
Days later, Sheffield Wednesday hosted Blackburn Rovers and earned a deserved 3-1 victory – only their second win of the campaign.
The cogs have begun to turn at Hillsborough and there is a lot of positivity around the club, but there position in this relegation scrap could well depend on the four of five games coming up over the next three weeks.
Can Sheffield Wednesday keep up their form in December?
Three of their next four matches are against teams that are close by and could well be fighting relegation too. Stoke City, QPR and Cardiff City should be viewed as winnable games for Danny Rohl’s side – especially with the latter two being played on home soil.
If Sheffield Wednesday were to claim maximum points then they could well be on their way to battling their way out of the bottom three.
Picking up these points could be key now, before the Owls take on much harder fixtures against the likes of Preston, Hull City and Southampton in January.
With the Christmas fixtures coming thick and fast, Sheffield Wednesday have to be at their very best and be prepared to put in their all for 90 minutes every single game.
If they can beat the teams around them, then their position in the Championship could be looking a lot less daunting in the new year. With the confidence they have gained over the past week, there is no reason why they can’t perform another miracle.
