Sheffield Wednesday have had some strong performers in recent weeks. But maybe one has been a bit off the pace.
Sheffield Wednesday were eight points adrift at the start of last month.
And now, despite a 2-0 defeat against Leeds United on Friday, the Owls are just a point from safety, finding themselves in the drop zone only on goal difference.
A win against Leeds could’ve lifted Danny Rohl‘s side as high as 16th place of the table.
It was a steady performance against opposition with just too much quality, with the Owls more than holding their own in the first half.
Some decent individual performances vs Leeds United
Sheffield Wednesday were largely kept at bay by Daniel Farke’s side.
But Pol Valentin caused a few problems in the first half and James Beadle also pulled off some top saves.
One man who didn’t really impress though was Anthony Musaba.
The Dutchman came back into the XI who Ian Poveda who couldn’t play against parent club Leeds, but the summer signing had little impact throughout.
The Star gave him a 5/10 rating, with journalist Joe Crann adding:
“Showed some good bits of attacking intent and got Wednesday up the pitch on occasion. Had a decent chance in the first half too, but his work in the final third just let him down.”
Anthony Musaba needs to find consistency
Musaba, described as ‘fantastic’ by Rohl, has been a key player for Sheffield Wednesday this season; there’s no doubt about it.
He’s scored winning goals in games against QPR and Stoke City, with five goals in the Championship and three assists, so without his contributions, the Owls would arguably be dead and buried already.
But the 23-year-old has definitely been in and out of form, and right now it seems like he’s out of form.
In games last month against Millwall and Bristol City he looked good, but then against Leeds, Musaba was a passenger for most of the game, and when he had the chance to hurt Leeds, his end product just let him down.
It’s easy to forget that he’s in his first season in England and it’s inevitably going to take time for Musaba to bed in properly.
And given the fact that he’s shown quality at times this season, there’s a lot of hope that Musaba will eventually become a top player for Sheffield Wednesday.
The key for him though is finding consistency and working on that end product.
