Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri may regret not finalising a deal for this one summer transfer target.
Sheffield Wednesday have made a positive start to the post-season, and controversial owner Dejphon Chansiri may be due some rare praise.
He was quick to secure the future of manager Danny Rohl who’s now signed a three-year contract, after previous links to the likes of Hull City and Sunderland.
Elsewhere, the Owls have tied down Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer and are expected to secure the future of Josh Windass too.
The transfer window officially opens for business on June 14th and Sheffield Wednesday look well-placed to pull off some impressive transfer deals.
But being well-placed, and actually finalising those deals, are two different things, and Sheffield Wednesday must make sure they’re quick to bring in their summer targets.
One name linked among a fair few others is Yan Valery; it was reported that Sheffield Wednesday had agreed a deal to sign Valery from Angers, but the Owls now face competition.
Montpellier have opened talks with Valery whilst Standard Liege have tabled a loan-to-buy offer, with a permanent option in the region of £500,000.

Valery, 25, is a right-back who played mainly in a back-four with Angers last season, whom he helped earn promotion to Ligue 1.
Bringing him in would bolster a pretty thin right-back department and give Rohl more freedom in terms of the shape, with Pol Valentin arguably better-suited as a right wing-back.
It’s an exciting potential signing and one that’s garnered a lot of attention from Sheffield Wednesday fans on social media.
But signing him would not only mean a strong addition to the side; it would also state the Owls’ and Chansiri’s intention for this upcoming summer transfer window.
If Sheffield Wednesday can fend off strong interest for Valery then it would show Rohl, and indeed everyone else, that Chansiri finally means business at Sheffield Wednesday.
He’s spent money in the past, but poorly. The Owls have since paid for that with years of no spending and poor league finishes.
But with Rohl in charge, it’s a definite chance to rebuild. Chansiri has already tempted Rohl into signing a new deal but Rohl would surely have laid out his hopes for the club in this summer’s transfer window.
Valery is clearly someone the Owls have done their homework on and they surely knew that signing him wouldn’t be easy, which is so far proving to be the case.
But Chansiri can put any fears to bed by putting some on the table for Valery; enough to keep the likes of Liege and Montpellier at bay, however much that might.
This £500,000 figure seems like a ballpark figure and it could be very shrewd business, and a fee that allows Rohl and Chansiri to spend on other players this summer as well.
If Sheffield Wednesday win the race for Valery, it’ll be a huge statement of intent.
