Sheffield Wednesday look set to let another one of their talented young players slip through their fingers as rumours of Liam Shaw joining Celtic continue to circulate.

The youngster has been one of the Owls’ standout performers this season, but as with any player whose contract is up, they’re at risk of losing him at the end of this campaign, and it looks as though a move to Celtic is now a distinct possibility.

Losing Shaw would undoubtedly be a bitter pill to swallow, and Owls supporters’ reactions to the initial reports linking him to Celtic tell you just how devastated they are about this news.

However, Dejphon Chansiri can make losing Shaw sting a lot less if he managed to tie down another of the Owls’ talented young players.

Indeed, Wednesday have another promising talent coming through the shape of Osaze Urhoghide, and like Shaw, his contract is up in the summer.

Urhoghide has quickly established himself as an important player at Hillsborough in recent weeks, earning all sorts of plaudits from supporters, and keeping him at the club would be a much-needed boost.

Of course, losing Shaw would still hurt, and we can only hope that the Owls somehow manage to rectify his situation at the club, but they could soften the blow of losing arguably their most talented young player by securing the future of another future star.

In an ideal world, both Urhoghide and Shaw would stay at the club, but if Shaw is leaving, Chansiri needs to absolutely make sure that Urhoghide doesn’t go the same way.

Let’s just hope there is some positive news coming out of Hillsborough about Urhoghide sooner rather than later.
