Xisco Munoz has spoken out about what he expects to see from new Sheffield Wednesday signing Momo Diaby this season.

Momo Diaby recently joined Sheffield Wednesday on a season-long loan deal from Portuguese side Portimonense. The French midfielder was a key figure for the Primeira Liga outfit, making 28 appearances for them in all competitions last season.

Diaby will also be expected to have a big impact at Hillsborough Stadium in the Championship this time around, and may well make his debut against Preston North End this weekend.

Munoz is certainly expecting big things from his summer signing. Sheffield Wednesday have looked defensively lightweight so far this season, and Munoz will be hoping that Diaby’s presence in the middle of the park will make his side tougher for opposition teams to cut through and break down.

Diaby to take on big responsibilities at Sheffield Wednesday

As quoted by The Star, the Spanish coach has set out his vision for Diaby’s role in the Owls’ team, saying, “he needs to give us the balance, right now – again today – when the ball went into the central channel they shot, goal. Second one, central channel, shoot, goal. In the Championship if you’re not strong in the central channels…This is the situation that he needs to try to stop. We can find this intensity and balance from him, in offence and defence.”

Munoz is still figuring out his best XI, and is actively searching for the tactical set up that will bring the best out of his players. He needs to find these solutions quickly, if the Owls are to stand a chance of securing survival in their first season back in the second tier of English football.

If Sheffield Wednesday are to stay up this season, then Diaby will surely play a big part in that success. The 6’6″ 26-year-old has the experience and technical ability to excel at this level and will play a crucial role in giving his team a stable platform to build on from midfield.
