Sheffield Wednesday manager Xisco Munoz has heaped praise on Anthony Musaba after his debut. The Owls were beaten 2-1 by Southampton but did manage to give a good account of themselves.

Munoz oversaw a harsh defeat during his maiden game in charge of Wednesday. Lee Gregory had equalised in the second half but a late winner from Che Adams saw the Saints claim victory.

Musaba was a surprise inclusion in the squad. He only arrived at Hillsborough shortly before Friday’s game but Munoz named him among his substitutes.

The youngster came on the pitch for the final 22 minutes against Southampton. He didn’t disappoint either and played extremely well during his brief cameo.

Munoz has suggested he was surprised by the player. He’s also claimed there will be more to come from the young Dutchman as he adapts to life in England.

He told Yorkshire Live: “Good players can adapt well but it’s clear he was at Monaco and now he’s arrived here. I gave him a two-hour video session yesterday, and two hours today too. Maybe, he’s thinking I’m crazy but he understands the situation.

“Tonight I put him out there and we tried to give him the maximum love and I’m sure we can see the best of him because he’s a very good player.”

Wednesday manager Munoz praises Musaba

The Dutch player does look like he could prove to be a very useful signing for Wednesday. He’s quick, direct and isn’t afraid to take opposition players on.

Musaba will get more chances to impress in the coming weeks. The Owls face Stockport County in the Carabao Cup in midweek and some changes could be afoot.

Munoz will want to quickly decide on his best eleven. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind pre-season campaign, with the manager replacing Darren Moore after pre-season had begun.

It will be exciting to see how Musaba can develop at Wednesday. Clearly, he will quickly become part of the team and under Munoz, he could start to sparkle very quickly.
