Wigan's Sam Morsy reportedly interesting Sheffield Wednesday

The Wigan Athletic midfielder, Sam Morsy, has become the latest player to be linked with Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls are one of a number of clubs keen on Morsy, according to Sky Sports’ Live Transfer Blog (May 20, 15:30).

The 27-year-old was a regular in Wigan’s midfield this past campaign, having appeared for Egypt at last summer’s World Cup.

Sam versus Sam at Wednesday?

A diminutive but tough-tackling player, Morsy is likely to be seen as potential competition for the Owls’ Sam Hutchinson.

However, his arrival could raise questions about the future of Joey Pelupessy at Hillsborough.

Morsy, formerly of Chesterfield and Barnsley, still has two years left on the contract he signed in December last year and is unlikely to come cheap.

Meanwhile, The Sun reports that Wednesday remain in the hunt to sign Morsy’s Wigan teammate Nick Powell.

It was earlier claimed by the Stoke Sentinel that Powell, also a midfielder, was edging closer to joining the Potters.
