Dominic Iorfa has praised Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl for what he did during his injury absence.
Dominic Iorfa has spent the last five years with Sheffield Wednesday, maintaining a regular spot in their starting line-up when available.
However, the defender has been susceptible to injury during his time at Hillsborough, managing only nine starts in the season they were relegated from the Championship, with his season ending in December.
Iorfa then spent another four months on the sidelines with a freak hip injury during the 2021/22 campaign, in which he went through some ‘really dark days’ and went a whole month without really speaking to his teammates.
After playing a key role in their return to the Championship last term, the 28-year-old has since struggled with yet another long-term injury since joining the club.
Iorfa was forced off with a muscle injury only four minutes into Sheffield Wednesday‘s win over Blackburn in December and didn’t return until the 2-1 victory over Bristol City last month.
Iorfa has now played a part in their last five outings and appears to be a lot more undisturbed upon his return than he was back in 2022.
The ‘refreshing’ thing Rohl did to help Dominic Iorfa
The centre-back has heaped praise on Danny Rohl for how he helped him during his period on the sidelines.
Speaking to The Star, Iorfa said: “When I’ve been injured before that can be the case, you’re just away with the physios.
“But this time the gaffer has been good. There was a point I was still five weeks away and he made clear he wanted me in every team meeting. It meant that when I came back I knew what was involved and what we were doing but it also meant I felt like I was involved.

“It’s a good feeling. You might feel like you’re a long way from getting back onto the pitch but being in those meetings, knowing what’s going on, being mentioned in meetings. It shows you’re still part of his plans which is refreshing and a good feeling.
“It makes you want to do better for that person as well. Obviously you’re doing it for yourself, you’re doing it for the club, but if there’s someone there who has treated you well then you want to do it for them and pushes you on. It all goes hand in hand. They’re good coaches, but they’re good people as well and it means you enjoy it. You want to come into a place that has good people around and you enjoy their environment. That’s something that we have.”
Danny Rohl is just extra special
It is no surprise that Danny Rohl receives so much loving from Sheffield Wednesday’s team, because he does the little things that clearly make such a big difference to them on and off the pitch.
The German cares for their wellbeing and not just their performances, which as a result, encourages them to play better and achieve better results.
Iorfa is definitely a player that has reaped the rewards of Rohl’s presence. Despite missing out on a large chunk of the campaign, the former Wolves man has made the second most tackles in the squad (49) and the fifth-most clearances (53).
Iorfa’s experience in a relegation battle could prove important in this final stretch of the season, with the likes of Di’Shon Bernard and Pol Valentin unfamiliar with the stress of finding yourself in the bottom three with only eight games to go.
