Wednesday target Dion Sanderson fails to make Wolves' 18, young rival features instead

Another of Sheffield Wednesday’s rumoured summer transfer targets was left out of his club’s squad on the Premier League’s opening weekend.

Neither Jacob Murphy, of Newcastle United, nor Kenneth Zohore, West Bromwich Albion, made their respective 18s on Saturday and Sunday – although the latter was injured, according to his manager, Slaven Bilic.

And Dion Sanderson found himself omitted entirely by Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.

In fact, Sanderson saw one of Wolves’ substitute berths given to another young player in his position, Oskar Buur, who ended up coming on in the 2-0 win at Sheffield United.

The former Cardiff City loanee was also missing from Wolves Under-23s’ 3-2 victory over their Burnley counterparts on Saturday.

And that could mean a move for him is likely ahead of next month’s domestic transfer deadline.

With Wolves having sold last season’s first-choice right-back Matt Doherty to Tottenham Hotspur, however, it is possible they’ll hold off on Sanderson’s departure until a replacement is found for the Irishman.

Sanderson would provide Kadeem Harris, Liam Palmer and Moses Odubajo with competition down the Wednesday right, but can also play at centre back, should he make a move to Hillsborough this autumn.
