Sheffield Wednesday have a front-runner for the vacant manager’s job; Danny Rohl.
Sheffield Wednesday look as though they’re working on appointing Rohl, 34, after sacking Xisco Munoz a week ago today.
It would be the German coach’s first managerial job after holding assistant coaching positions with the likes of Southampton, RB Leipzig, and the German national side.
For some, the potential appointment is an exciting one. But others seem to believe that the appointment is the cheaper option for owner Dejphon Chansiri, who recently pledged to put no more additional funds into the club.
But reporter Joe Crann has had his say on this opinion, stating that he believes there are much cheaper options out there for Wednesday.
Crann tweeted earlier today:
“Seen some people suggest that Danny Röhl would be a ‘cheap’ option for Chansiri to make for #SWFC, and I just can’t see how that’s the case… There will be plenty of far cheaper options than somebody with his background and recent experiences. An unfair criticism imho.”
Unfair criticism of the Sheffield Wednesday owner?
Chansiri has faced no end of criticism over the past few weeks. Fans will say that most of it is deserved and the likes of Crann may be inclined to agree, but whether or not this ‘cheap option’ criticism is warranted remains to be seen.
After the whole Darren Moore saga, fans may be forgiven for assuming that Chansiri only hire cheap managers. And given Rohl’s lack of experience in first-team management, many may be right to assume that Rohl won’t cost as much as other managers.
But like Crann suggests; there’ll still be plenty of managers out there interested in the Wednesday job, and plenty who are perhaps a lot cheaper than Rohl who has good experience with some top clubs.
It may well be unfair criticism of Chansiri but we’ll probably never know the ins and outs of how much Rohl will cost the club, should they go on to appoint him that is.
