Dom Howson delivered an assessment on Sheffield Wednesday defender Bambo Diaby last night – and it wasn’t a positive one! The Owls were left shellshocked by Sunderland as the Black Cats won 3-0 at Hillsborough.
The result means that Wednesday have now gone nine Championship games without a victory to begin the campaign. Last night’s result saw them three goals behind inside half an hour.
Two goals from the in-form Jack Clarke and one from Dom Ballard were enough for Tony Mowbray’s men. Wednesday improved slightly in the second half – but things could hardly have been much worse than the opening 45 minutes.
Howson delivers verdict on Diaby performance for Wednesday

Last night, he wasn’t happy with the performance of Diaby. The burly central defender was signed from Preston North End in the summer and it’s fair to say that he’s struggled to get going.
Howson felt that he didn’t cover himself in glory last night – particularly in the first half. He took to X to deliver a verdict on the central defender during the game.
He said on social media: “A stinker of a half for Diaby. Lost his man for the opener and conceded a stupid penalty. Has struggled for consistency since joining the club.”
Diaby looking like an ordinary signing right now
The defender was forced out of the action last night after a nasty-looking head injury. Diaby is a trier but ultimately he looks as though he’s lacking some quality right now.
For a quick defender, Diaby doesn’t really ready the game particularly well. As Howson said, he let Ballard have a free header early doors and then gave away a clumsy penalty all in the opening 30 minutes.
The 25-year-old simply has to get better as the season progresses. He isn’t alone, however, but last night his mistakes did come under fire and rightly so.
