Sheffield Wednesday will look to make it three games unbeaten when they head to fellow strugglers Stoke City in the Championship tomorrow.
The Owls remain in last place of the table, but after a draw vs Leicester City and a win over Blackburn Rovers, the gap to safety now stands at 10 points.
Darren Moore‘s Huddersfield Town are the team in 21st. But Alex Neil’s Stoke City sit just a point and a place ahead of the Terriers.
The Potters boss is coming under increasing pressure with his side now winless in five and on a run of three-straight defeats.
Alex Neil gives verdict on ‘mixed’ Sheffield Wednesday side
Sheffield Wednesday in their last two games have been as good as we’ve seen all season.
The impact made by Danny Rohl is becoming more and more evident with every game and it marks a stark contrast to the side that had no hope under Xisco Munoz previously.
And Neil echoed that in his pre-match press conference this week, labelling Sheffield Wednesday as a ‘very mixed’ side, but hailing the recent impact of Rohl.
Neil said of the Owls:
“They have been very mixed. At the moment, they’re not in a great position in the table but I have watched their last few games since the new coach has come in and I think they have been well-organised.
“We are confident that, if we play as well as we can, we will cause them problems.”
Another winnable game for the Owls?
Stoke City have had a very poor season so far.
They signed 18 new players in the summer and looked set to challenge for a spot in the top six, but it appears to be the same old story for the Potters.
And Neil is a man under increasing pressure, so he’ll view this game against the Championship’s bottom club as a real must-win.
But the Owls’ current league position isn’t representative of how they’ve played in the last couple of games and they too may view this clash as a chance for another three points.
Like Neil says, Rohl has made Sheffield Wednesday into a very organised and drilled team, with that evident in their recent performances.
And the Owls will need to be at their best once again to get a win this weekend.
Wednesday have been poor on the road so far but they go into this game with a newfound confidence in their fight for survival.
