Some Sheffield Wednesday fans on Twitter have been raving about Joe Wildsmith after the 1-1 draw with Reading on Wednesday evening.

The Owls were under the cosh for a lot of the match after being reduced to 10-men after half an hour, but despite facing 20 shots and having just 22 per cent of the possession, Wednesday managed to salvage a draw.

One man who deserves an incredible amount of credit for his performance in mid-week is Wildsmith, as you can imagine, having faced 20 shots, Wildsmith was incredibly busy, and he managed to keep all but one of Reading’s strikes out.

The goalkeeper has earned a lot of plaudits as of late, and he showed exactly why he deserves them at Hillsborough.

Wildsmith has come back into the XI after Keiren Westwood suffered an injury, but he’s now staking a claim to be number one in the eyes of many Sheffield Wednesday fans.

Whether or not Tony Pulis sees it the same way remains to be seen, but if Wildsmith keeps this level of performance up, he will give the manager something of a selection headache.

Here’s what the Hillsborough faithful were saying about the goalkeeper on social media…
