Some Newcastle United supporters are urging the Sheffield Wednesday chairman, Dejphon Chansiri, to continue standing his ground over Steve Bruce.

Bruce is wanted to replace Rafa Benitez as Newcastle manager.

And the Owls boss is said to be interested in taking the position at his boyhood club.

But according to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie, Wednesday have surprised the Magpies with an asking price ‘far greater than expected’ for Bruce and his assistants, Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence.

Chansiri has gained a reputation as being something of a difficult negotiator, and has made just one high-profile player sale – Jack Hunt to Bristol City for a fee south of £2 million – in his four-and-a-half-year reign.

And the following Newcastle fans, disillusioned by the prospect of Bruce’s arrival, as a former Sunderland boss who last managed in the Premier League four years ago, are hoping that the Thai businessman will once again get his way…

It is unclear whether or not Bruce will take charge of Sheffield Wednesday’s first pre-season friendly on English soil, at Lincoln later on Saturday.
