Gary Hooper is wanted by Major League Soccer sides, DC United and Vancouver Whitecaps, according to Sky Sports (Monday live blog, 14:34).

Clubs in China are also said to have expressed an interest in the injured Sheffield Wednesday striker, who recently entered the final year of his contract at Hillsborough.

It is unclear when Hooper will return to action, having last appeared at first-team level more than a year ago – against Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day 2017.

The 30-year-old has scored or assisted 41 goals in 83 games for Wednesday since his 2015 move from Norwich City, and this is not the first of his injury lay-offs since then.

He could join the former England captain, Wayne Rooney, at DC United, while his one-time Celtic teammate, Efrain Juarez, is currently on the Whitecaps’ books.

Sheffield Wednesday have undoubtedly suffered in Hooper’s absence, but at least have Sam Winnall back in action after a similarly long spell on the sidelines.
