Sheffield Wednesday host Leeds United in the Championship on Friday night.
Sheffield Wednesday are once again at Hillsborough on Friday night, where they welcome Yorkshire rivals Leeds United for what should be a feisty affair.
Both teams go into this one in good form; Leeds have taken 13 points from their last five and the Owls have taken 12, now finding themselves just two points behind Plymouth Argyle in 16th but still in 23rd on goal difference.
Daniel Farke’s Leeds meanwhile are up in 3rd place of the Championship table and could leapfrog Ipswich Town in 2nd should they win in South Yorkshire tonight.
David Prutton predicts Leeds United win at Hillsborough
Sheffield Wednesday against Leeds United is always an entertaining watch; and this one should be especially so given both team’s current fortunes and current form.
But Sky Sports pundit and former Owls and Leeds midfielder David Prutton has predicted an away win tonight.
Prutton backs Leeds to win 2-1, adding:
“It just shows how strange this league is that Sheffield Wednesday could win four from five and move from 23rd to… 23rd in the table. But the fact they are in contention to move out of the bottom three on Friday night, from where they came from, shows just what a job Danny Rohl has done.
“The problem is they’ve got Leeds United standing in their way at Hillsborough. They returned to winning ways against Stoke in midweek after being held by Huddersfield at the weekend. And should have enough to power past the Owls.”
Sheffield Wednesday facing their toughest test yet
Tonight’s game is arguably Sheffield Wednesday’s toughest game under Danny Rohl so far.
Yes they’ve played the likes of Southampton, Leicester City, and many other top teams under Rohl’s watch, but not Leeds.
And there’ll be added pressure on the Owls, from both themselves and arguably the fans to get something from tonight’s game, given how good they’ve looked in recent weeks.
Leeds will also be expecting a tough game away at Hillsborough tonight and so it’s no walk in the park for them either.
But with Leeds having won 10 of their last 11 Championship fixtures and having the chance to move up into the top two tonight, it’s hard to see Leeds not dominating the game tonight, and not finding the win.
They have so much attacking quality and so many players to bring off the bench and keep the pressure on the Owls throughout the 90.
Anything could happen, though, and if there’s a team to deliver Leeds a shock defeat right now, it may eb Yorkshire rivals Wednesday.
