The loaned-out Sheffield Wednesday left-back Matt Penney has returned to training after a muscle problem.

Penney missed St Pauli’s 1-1 draw with Bochum before the international break, but is back in contention for Friday’s trip to Erzgebirge.

The Hamburg side, who are managed by the 21-year-old’s former Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay, shared the following updates via their Twitter account this week.

Penney has played eight times for St Pauli, where he is due to spend the rest of this season.

What happens after that, though, remains to be seen, with the Chesterfield native’s contract due to expire then.

Penney played 17 times for Sheffield Wednesday before injury curtailed his breakthrough campaign.

And he found Morgan Fox and Liam Palmer ahead of him in Wednesday’s plans after his return to fitness.

Meanwhile, another Owls exile, Connor Kirby, was named man of the match as his temporary employers, Macclesfield Town, drew 0-0 with Mansfield Town on Saturday.
