Ashley Baker has shared a somewhat gruesome photograph on Instagram after appearing for Sheffield Wednesday’s Under-23s on Friday.

Baker played alongside his fellow senior Owls Joe Wildsmith and David Bates in the 3-3 draw against Nottingham Forest at Hillsborough this lunchtime.

But the Welsh right-back appears to have spent the remainder of his afternoon receiving medical treatment to his neck.

He presumably suffered the damage – a deep-looking gash which those who aren’t too squeamish can see for themselves below – during the game, despite having seen out the full 90 minutes.

Wednesday twice came from behind against Forest thanks to goals from Preslav Borukov and Conor Grant, before Osaze Urhoghide looked to have snatched all three points for the hosts late on.

The Reds had other ideas though and promptly equalised through Yassine En-Neyah.

Baker has appeared 13 times for the Owls’ first team, but last did so a year ago this weekend in a 2-1 defeat at Swansea City which cost Jos Luhukay his job.

The 23-year-old’s contract is due to expire next summer.
