Sheffield Wednesday youth development coach Jordan Broadbent has said that first team manager Danny Rohl is now ‘inspiring’ him.
Broadbent is 36 years old, and has a lot of experience as a coach, boasting the likes of near rivals Sheffield United, Bradford City and Barnsley all on his coaching CV. He also has experience in the football agency department too.
Rohl on the other hand is a 34-year-old who is first team manager at Wednesday. He boasts the likes of RB Leipzig and the German National team, which has lead him to becoming the youngest manager in the Premier League and EFL combined.
Broadbent on his inspiration
Speaking to Yorkshire Live, Broadbent spoke about Rohl’s appointment as manager which has inspired him as a young coach.
“It’s inspiring really, for me, to see someone of a similar age to myself being given this chance.
“I think it’s good because you look at the English game and for a long time it felt like there wasn’t a pathway for young coaches as opposed to the continent. You look at our manager now and he’s had an opportunity because he’s very good at what he does. Hopefully we’ll see an identity filter down to the under-21s and academy.”
Rohl to inspire next Wednesday manager?
It is good to see that Rohl’s appointment is not only having an impact on the players in the pitch, but also the staff off the pitch, in and around the club, even if they are not directly working with Rohl and the first team.
There are now a lot more younger managers in the Championship and the EFL, with only two managers above the age of 60.
We are starting to see more young managers coming into the game, and you never know, we could see Broadbent do the same further down the line, too.
