Sheffield Wednesday transfer mistake highlighted as shocking finances now emerge

Reputable journalist Alan Biggs has been left stunned at something that Sheffield Wednesday didn’t do during the January transfer window.

The Yorkshire-based reporter has taken to Twitter to vent some frustrations he’s had.

So, what has Biggs said about Wednesday in the January transfer window? Let’s take a closer look…

What Alan Biggs was surprised about during Sheffield Wednesday transfer window

Ultimately, it proved a bit of an underwhelming window from a Wednesday perspective. Ike Ugbo and Ian Poveda were the pick of the signings but more was anticipated.

It was claimed ahead of the window that Dejphon Chansiri was going to fund £30,000-a-week for a new striker.

That never materialised, with Wednesday hanging on to a number of players that are seemingly unwanted by Danny Rohl.

The likes of Lee Gregory, Jeff Hendrick and Callum Paterson haven’t been registered in the 25-man squad – yet remain at Hillsborough collecting a wage.

Biggs has been left stunned by that and thinks some more departures would have allowed Wednesday to get some more stellar recruits through the door. He tweeted:

In our view, it’s hard not to agree with Biggs. He’s made some excellent points and once again it’s the Wednesday fan base that have been left somewhat disappointed.

Wednesday have to bolster recruitment going forward

The process of signing players has been a complete mess since the club returned to the Championship.

During the summer, several unknown quantities were added to the ranks and it’s fair to say that a bit of ambition was lacking.

In January, a big name might have been mentioned but the club never really threatened to sign one, based on the links that came to light.

Biggs made these comments after financial expert Kieran Maguire shed some light on the finances at Wednesday.

It’s claimed that the club has accumulated losses of £132 million in the last decade to further cast a shadow over the Chansiri era.

Biggs is a man who has the Sheffield clubs at heart and his point about the January window is an excellent one.

Wednesday now have a number of players on their books who have absolutely zero chance of making an appearance.

Things have got to improve on the recruitment side of things and lessons need to be learned.
