Danny Rohl has issued his verdict on whether an injured Sheffield Wednesday pair could return against Middlesbrough.
Sheffield Wednesday‘s season has been littered with injuries, but could potentially see their starting line-up be close to full strength in the coming weeks.
Callum Paterson is expected to return to the squad at the start of April, having spent the last three months on the sidelines.
Barry Bannan made his comeback on the bench after picking up a minor injury in the 6-0 defeat to Ipswich Town, but the clash with Swansea City came too early for Josh Windass and Ian Poveda.
Windass has spent a large chunk of the campaign on the treatment table, with his most recent injury putting him out of action for the previous ten games.
Meanwhile, Poveda has only missed the Good Friday clash, but was a big loss after his impressive start to life at Hillsborough.
Sheffield Wednesday pair could make the bench
With only three days between the Owls’ matches over the bank holiday weekend, Danny Rohl has now provided an update on the pair’s chances of featuring against Middlesbrough tomorrow.
Speaking to The Star, the German coach said: “Ian Poveda tried to come back, there’s Josh Windass, and I think if you look at these names they are players that can make the difference on the pitch…
“It’s difficult to say (who will be available on Monday), it’s just two days. It may be that somebody can be available for the bench, but maybe not.
“I think with Barry hopefully it was helpful to have 20 minutes to get a little bit of rhythm and trust in his body, but with the others we’ll have a look.”
How important can Poveda & Windass be?
Ian Poveda is yet to score for Sheffield Wednesday, but he has been brilliant at creating chances and causing the opposition defence problems.
His impact has been undeniable and Rohl will be desperate for him to return to help the club avoid relegation.
Windass is also known to make himself known in the big games and will know exactly what is needed of him in the final stages of the campaign, though it could well take a few weeks to get back up to speed.
With only seven games remaining, the Owls need as many players back as they can get, because they are going to have put every single ounce of energy into these seven cup finals.
