Sheffield Wednesday will host Millwall on Saturday afternoon, in what will be their new manager Joe Edwards’ first game in charge of the club.
The 37-year-old took over earlier this week following the departure of Gary Rowett after four years of service.
He will make the trip to Hillsborough in his first game in charge to take on Danny Rohl, another new, young manager in the Championship after he joined the Owls last month.
New Millwall boss wants his side to be ‘proactive’
Speaking to Millwall’s club website upon joining the club, Edwards’ stated he wants his team to be ‘proactive’.
“Change can sometimes feel like a new lease of life and a breath of fresh air.
“What I’d like to see is us be proactive with the ball. The reason I’m conscious not to use the word possession too much is that I’m not an obsessive possession-based coach where we have to have 65 or 70 per cent of the ball – you can have 70 per cent of the ball in a game and not play well, I know that.
“I want us to be more on the front foot and proactive from an attacking point of view and that starts on the training pitch. A lot of the work we do in these early days and weeks will be stuff where it is players getting on the ball, thinking forward and playing forward. Taking care of possession. I want the training to be enjoyable – if you’ve got people out there enjoying what they are doing then it is a big thing.”
Edwards’ Millwall will be different
Edwards’ Millwall team certainly sounds like it will be different from the more defensive Lions team we are used to seeing.
It is clear to see he wants to play a more possession-based approach than what Millwall are used to.
It will be interesting to see whether Rohl and the Wednesday coaching staff can outwit Edwards in his maiden game in charge.
