Danny Rohl has addressed what Sheffield Wednesday have to do to stay up now.
Sheffield Wednesday looked destined for relegation at the start of the month after picking up only one point from four games – whilst also conceding ten goals in the process.
However, the Owls’ have completely turned things around again and have now won three of their last four, as well as picking up two clean sheets.
Danny Rohl‘s side now sit only three points from safety and could move level with QPR if they can beat bottom place Rotherham United this weekend.
The Yorkshire outfit have 12 games to go before their Championship status could be officially confirmed or abandoned, but they still have a number of tough clashes coming up against the likes of Leeds United, Ipswich Town, West Brom and Middlesbrough.
Even if the team are able to beat The Millers next time out, they then have to stay above the bottom three for the next two months before they can start planning for next season.
Rohl has now heaped praise on his time though and has admitted they have the ‘best chance’ of staying up if they keep doing what they are doing.
“We must focus on our performance,” he told The Star after the win over Bristol City.
“Of course, we know about the results everywhere else straight away, but I said to the guys ‘focus on yourself, focus on yourself’.
“We have 12 finals to go and if we keep on going the way we are, we will have the best chance of staying in the Championship… We have won three games from four, the atmosphere is amazing, and even the game we lost at Leicester, the fans gave the players a standing ovation because they recognise what we are trying to do.
“Again, my players gave everything, the way we managed the game with 10 men was very professional and solid and made sure we took the points… We have a big week coming up with teams of different profiles in Rotherham, Plymouth and Leeds.
“So we continue to do what we are doing, we work hard, we train hard and take those principles into games.”
Can Sheffield Wednesday beat the best?
Sheffield Wednesday have been miles better under Danny Rohl than they were earlier in the season, beating the likes of Hull City, Preston and Millwall.
However, what could really help the Owls is a real giant killing in one of their upcoming fixtures.
Rohl’s side are set to face Leeds and Ipswich next month, both of who are vying for a place in the automatic promotion spots.
If Sheffield Wednesday were to shock either of those clubs with a surprise win, then it will benefit them hugely and really give them the confidence going into their final run of games.
The team really can’t let their concentration slip, because there are still five or six clubs that face relegation and the Owls need to be one of the best to steer clear of the drop.
